Linxian County is located in the middle reaches of the Yellow River on the western Shanxi Loess Plateau west of Luliang. It is subordinate to Luliang City, Shanxi Province. The east screen of Luliang Mountain connects Fangshan Mountain, the west faces the Yellow River across the river from Jiaxian County and Wubao County, Shaanxi Province, the north borders Xingxian County, and the south borders Lishi and Liulin District. On February 27, 2020, with the consent of Shanxi Provincial Government, Linxian County withdrew from poor counties.
