Lulong County gets its name because its northwest is adjacent to the ancient lacquer water (Qinglong River). During the Yin and Shang Dynasties, Lulong County was the capital of Guzhu State. It was first named Lulong County in the 18th year of Emperor Kaihuang of Sui Dynasty (598). During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was governed by Yongping Prefecture, which was known as the "First Prefecture in Jingdong" in history. In November 1958, Lulong County was abolished, and Qian'an County and Changli County were under its jurisdiction.
