Mangkang County is located in the southeast of Tibet Autonomous Region, the easternmost of Qamdo City, located at the intersection of Sichuan, Yunnan and Tibet provinces. It is located between 98°00 '-99°05' east longitude and 28°37 '-30°20' north latitude. It borders Batang County of Sichuan Province in the east, Deqin County of Yunnan Province in the south, Zuogong County in the west, and Gongjue County and Chaya County in the north.
Mangkang Tibetan means "good and wonderful region", Mangkang County with a total area of 11,600 square kilometers, jurisdiction over 2 towns and 14 townships (including a township). According to the seventh census, the permanent population of Mangkang county was 79,001 as of midnight on November 1, 2020.
The main tourist attractions include the ancient Tea Horse Road, Mankang Yunnan Golden Monkey Nature Reserve, Manco Scenic Area and Nico Temple.
