Meitan County, located in the north of Guizhou Province, belongs to Zunyi City. The county seat is 58 kilometers away from Zunyi City, with a total area of 1,865.54 square kilometers. Jurisdiction over 3 streets, 12 towns, 132 villages (residential, community). According to the seventh census data, Meitan County has a permanent population of 372,865 as of midnight on November 1, 2020. The area is long and narrow, 25.5 kilometers wide from east to west and 96.5 kilometers long from north to south. The average altitude is 972.7 meters above sea level. The forest coverage rate reaches 66.04%. It is a subtropical monsoon humid climate with an average annual temperature of 15.1℃.

Meitan County is "the first county of Guizhou Tea industry", and its tea brands such as "Meitan Green Bud", "Zunyi Red", "Guizhou Needle" and "Mejiang Green Slice" enjoy a good reputation in China. The land is fertile, the mountains and rivers are beautiful, the ecology is good, known as "a pearl on the Guizhou plateau" and "Yunnan-Guizhou small Jiangnan". The first batch of national demonstration units for building rural communities. In 2016, Meitan County was listed as the second batch of national comprehensive pilot areas for new urbanization. On September 25, 2018, the People's Government of Guizhou Province issued a notice saying that it agreed to withdraw Meitan County and other 14 counties (districts) from the poverty-stricken counties.
