Min County, which is subordinate to Dingxi City, Gansu Province, is named after Minshan Mountain in the south of Dingxi City, Gansu Province. The system of Minxian County can be traced back to the eighth year of the reign of the Qin Dynasty (239 B.C.) when it was called Lintao, which is the western starting point of the Great Wall of Qin Dynasty. Minzhou was established in the tenth year of the reign of Emperor Wen of the Western Wei Dynasty (544 A.D.), and changed to Minxian County in the second year of the Republic of China (1913). After 1985, it was under the jurisdiction of Dingxi. Minxian County has 15 towns and 3 townships under its jurisdiction, with a total drainage area of 3578 square kilometers. According to the seventh census data, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Minxian County is 425627, and the government is stationed in Minyang Town.

Located at the edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Minxian County is the transition zone from Gannan Grassland to the Loess Plateau and Longnan Mountains. With an altitude of 2040-3754 meters, it is known as "Longyuan Dry Wharf". The climate is plateau continental climate, low temperature and dry, and natural disasters occur frequently. It is the county hardest hit by the July 22 Dingxi earthquake. Minxian County has resources such as traditional Chinese medicine, livestock and grass, minerals, water and electricity. It is one of the 58 key poverty-stricken counties in the national poverty relief county and Liupanshan District, with a poverty incidence of 17.27%.

Minxian County is rich in 238 kinds of Chinese medicinal materials, such as angelica, astragalus, astragalus, codonopsis pilosula, among which "Mingui" is the most famous and "the hometown of Chinese angelica". In December 2018, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs identified it as the second batch of agricultural products with Chinese characteristics.

In 2019, the county's GDP reached 4.861 billion yuan, an increase of 5.5% over the previous year.
