Minhe Hui Tuzu Autonomous County is under the jurisdiction of Haidong City, Qinghai Province, located in the eastern edge of Qinghai Province. It is connected to Yongdeng County of Gansu Province and Honggu District of Lanzhou City in the northeast, Yongjing County of Gansu Province in the east, Jishishan County of Gansu Province across the Yellow River in the south, and Xunhua County, Hualong County and Ledu District of Gansu Province in the west, northwest and north. The county is 96 kilometers long from north to south and 32 kilometers wide from east to west. The total area is 1891 square kilometers.

The Minhe and Hui Tu Autonomous County has jurisdiction over 8 towns and 14 townships. The majority of the people in the Minhe and Hui Tu Autonomous County are Han, with Hui, Tu and Tibetan among the major ethnic minorities. By the end of 2019, the registered population of Minhe and Hui Tu Autonomous County was 438,067. Minhe Hui Tu Autonomous County is an important main producing area of grain, vegetables, melons and fruits in Qinghai Province, enjoying the reputation of "the Hometown of melons and Fruits" in the province.

In April 2020, Minhe County was removed from the list of poverty-stricken counties. In October 2020, it was awarded as the 2019 Advanced Group in Poverty alleviation.
In 2020, the county's GDP reached 10.816 billion yuan, an increase of 4.5% over the previous year at comparable prices.
