Mozhu Gongka County, located in the central part of Tibet Autonomous Region and east of Lhasa City, means "middle white land where the Green Dragon King lives in the color of Mozhu" in Tibetan language. The middle and upper reaches of Lhasa River, the west side of Mira Mountain, the middle reaches of Yarlung Zangbo River valley in South Tibet, is a part of Lhasa River Valley plain. The total area is 5620 square kilometers. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Mozhu Gongka County was 49,511.
Mozhusongka County is adjacent to Gongbujiangda County of Nyingchi City in the east, Sangri County of Shannan City in the south, Dazi District and Linzhou County in the west, and Jiali County of Nagqu City in the north. It is a semi-arid monsoon climate area in the temperate zone of the plateau, with high cold and dry, thin air, windy winter and spring, small annual temperature difference and large temperature difference between day and night. As of June 2020, Mozhu Gongka County has jurisdiction over 1 town and 7 townships. As of 2019, Mozhu Gongka County has a total population of 57,000.
In 2020, the GDP of Mozhukongka County reached 3.925 billion yuan, an increase of 7.4% based on comparable prices.
In October 2018, the Tibet Autonomous Region government approved Mozhukongka County to be removed from the poverty-stricken county list.
