Nenjiang is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Heilongjiang Province, administered by Heihe City. Nenjiang City is located in the Songnen Plain connecting the greater and Lesser Hinggan Mountains of the transition zone, located in the northwest of Heilongjiang Province, the west of Heihe City, Nenjiang City because of the territory of the Nenjiang, a total area of 15211.43 square kilometers, jurisdiction over 9 towns, 5 townships. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Nenjiang was 355,528.

Nenjiang City is located in the upper reaches of the Nenjiang River Basin, at the confluence of "two provinces and four cities" : Hei, Mongolia and Gagdaqi, Hulun Buir, Qiqihar and Heihe. With convenient transportation, Qi-Canada Railway, Jing-Canada G111 Highway, Nen-hu S208 Highway, Nen-Hei S301 highway, Hun-Nen S 303 Highway, and Jia-Hei S310 highway cross the border, and trade and logistics are flourishing. It has developed into a regional central city in northwest Heilongjiang Province. In 2019, with the approval of The State Council, the Ministry of Civil Affairs approved the abolition of Nenjiang County and the establishment of county-level Nenjiang City.

In November 2019, it was selected into the list of the second batch of counties (districts) that reached the standard of water-saving social construction. The quality of farmers' cooperatives in the whole county to promote pilot units.
In 2020, the GDP of Nenjiang reached 240.4602 million yuan, an increase of 4.5% year on year (at comparable prices).
