Ninghua County (formerly Ninghua County, Tingzhou Prefecture) is subordinate to Sanming City, Fujian Province. It is located in the west of Fujian Province, at the east foot of Wuyi Mountain, bordering Mingxi and Qingliu County in the east, Shicheng and Guangchang County in Jiangxi Province in the west, Changting County in the south, and Jianning County in the north. It is a major hub from Fujian to Jiangxi Province. The territory is 78.29 kilometers long from north to south and 68.08 kilometers wide from east to west, with a total area of 2407.46 square kilometers. The main rivers Dongxi and Xixi converge in the eastern suburb of the county, which is called Cuijiang River. According to the data of the seventh population census, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, the permanent resident population of Ninghua County was 261579.

Ninghua County is one of the 21 key counties of the former Central Soviet Area during the Second Civil Revolutionary War and one of the four starting counties of the Central Red Army's Long March. Ninghua County is one of the Central Soviet Area counties, known as the "Soviet Ukraine", and enjoys the policy treatment of the western region. At the end of 2011, it was recognized by the China Branch of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names as "the cultural heritage of Chinese geographical names - a thousand years old ancient county". It was named by the Fujian Provincial Government as "the hometown of Chinese folk culture and art (Hakka customs)". On January 25, 2019, it was selected as the national "safe agricultural machinery" demonstration county in 2018. In 2019, it was the "top ten" counties (cities) in Fujian's county economic development 。 In April 2020, Ninghua County met the conditions for poverty alleviation and withdrawal, and withdrew from the provincial key counties for poverty alleviation and development in Fujian Province. On October 9, 2020, it was awarded the title of the fourth batch of national ecological civilization construction demonstration cities and counties by the Ministry of Ecological Environment.

In 2020, the annual GDP of Ninghua County will reach 20197 million yuan, a comparable increase of 3.7%.
