Pingnan is located in Neilu Mountain District and County of Ningde City, between 26 ° 44 '- 27 ° 10' N and 118 ° 41 '- 119 ° 13' E. It is connected with Ningde City in the southeast, Zhouning County in the northeast, Zhenghe County in the north, Jian'ou City in the northwest and Gutian County in the southwest. The whole territory is 54 kilometers wide from east to west, 50 kilometers long from north to south, and covers an area of 1487 square kilometers.
Pingnan was originally located in Gutian County. In 1735, the 13th year of Yongzheng's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1735), the 13 capital cities in the northeast of Gutian County, namely Yifengli, Xinjili and Hengxi, were built. Shuangxi is located in the south of Cuiping Mountain, so Emperor Yongzheng named it "Pingnan". After the establishment of Pingnan County, it belonged to Fuzhou Government. In 1971, the former Fu'an Special Office moved to Ningde, and was renamed Ningde District, which belongs to Pingnan County. It has the reputation of "the county where the red flag does not fall", "the township of mandarin ducks", "the township of summer mushrooms", "the township of oil and Nai", and "the township of water and electricity" in Fujian Province.
According to the data of the seventh population census, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Pingnan County was 139815. In March 2019, it was listed as the first batch of revolutionary cultural relics protection and utilization areas and counties. In 2020, Pingnan County achieved a GDP of 9.184 billion yuan, up 0.5% year on year.
