Pizhou is short for "Pi". Jiangsu Province administers county-level cities and is managed by Xuzhou City. Known as Piguo, Xiapi and Liangcheng in ancient times, it is located at the junction of Jiangsu and Shandong, bordering Xinyi City in the east, Tongshan District and Jiawang District of Xuzhou City in the west, Suining County and Suyu District of Suqian City in the south, and Taierzhuang District, Lanling County and Tancheng County of Zaozhuang City in Shandong Province in the north. In 1992, the county was abolished and the city was established. The area is 2088 square kilometers. According to the data of the seventh population census, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, there are 1462563 permanent residents.

Pizhou has a long history. The Dadunzi site in Pizhou is 6000 years old and is one of the earliest origins of Jiangsu civilization. There are tourist attractions such as Pizhou Aishan Scenic Spot, Pizhou Ginkgo Time Tunnel, Shagou Lake Shuishan Park, Taohua Island Park, National Ginkgo Expo Park, Tushan Ancient Town, Little Radish Head Memorial Hall, etc. The urban spirit is "innovation, competition, openness and inclusiveness". The development goal is to be an important land and water transportation hub and emerging industrial and trade city in the East Longhai Industrial Belt, and an ecological livable city with water town characteristics and historical and cultural heritage along the Beijing-Hangzhou Canal. In July 2019, Pizhou was selected as the pilot county (district) of the National Intellectual Property Project. In 2019, it ranked 37th in the national top 100 counties and cities with comprehensive strength, 40th in the economic competitiveness, 18th in the national top 100 counties and cities with investment potential, 33rd in the national top 100 counties and cities with green development, 36th in the national top 100 counties and cities with scientific and technological innovation, and 51st in the national top 100 counties and cities with new urbanization quality. In 2020, it won the title of "National Civilized City", "China's Most Happiest City", "Top Ten Counties (Cities, Districts) with Business Environment", and "Top Ten Counties (Cities, Districts) with High Quality Development" in 2021.

In 2020, Pizhou achieved a GDP of 100.126 billion yuan, an increase of 3.9% over the previous year. The tertiary industrial structure is 15.9:39.6:44.5. The per capita GDP was 68855 yuan, an increase of 3.2% over the previous year. In 2021, the city's GDP will exceed 110 billion yuan.
