Rongcheng City, a county - level city in Shandong Province, is administered by Weihai City. Located in the eastern end of the Shandong Peninsula, surrounded by the sea on three sides and 500 kilometers of coastline, it is the closest place between mainland China and South Korea. It is between 122°08 '-- 122°42' east longitude and 36°45 '-- 37°27' north latitude. It is close to the Yellow Sea on the north, east and south sides, and the coastline is 491.9 kilometers long. Jurisdiction over 3 districts, 12 towns, 10 streets, an area of 1526 square kilometers. According to the seventh census data, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Rongcheng was 714,211.

As early as the Neolithic Age, Rongcheng was inhabited by human beings. In the Western Han Dynasty, Buye County is Donglai County. According to historical records, the first Emperor of Qin came to build Bridges and shrines twice, and Emperor Wudi of Han Dynasty also came to worship the Lord of Japan. By the end of 2016, it had 3 national 4A scenic spots, 11 3A scenic spots and 1 2A scenic spots. In January 2018, Rongcheng was selected as one of the first demonstration cities for the construction of a social credit system.

In 2020, the GDP of Rongcheng reached 94.32 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 2.0%. On May 9, 2022, Rongcheng was named a national sports industry demonstration base. On September 5, the first batch of innovative county (city) acceptance list was released, Rong Cheng was listed among them.
