It is located in the southwest border of Xinjiang, bounded by the Yerqiang River in the southeast, facing Zepu County and Yecheng County across the river, bordering Maigaiti County in the northeast, Bachu County in the north, Yuepu Lake and Shule County in the northwest, Yingjisha and Aktau County in the west, and Tashkurgan County in the southwest.

In 2019, Shache County's regional GDP was 12021.48 million yuan, the added value of the primary industry was 416.55 million yuan, the added value of the secondary industry was 1756.82 million yuan, the general public budget revenue was 57.212 million yuan, and the general public budget expenditure was 1209.96 million yuan.
