Shangyu District is under Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province. Located in the east of Zhejiang Province, northeast of Shaoxing City, Qiantang River south bank. It is adjacent to Yuyao City of Ningbo City in the east, Shengzhou City in the south, Keqiao District and Yucheng District in the west, Qiantang River in the north, and Haining City and Haiyan County facing each other, with an area of 1403 square kilometers. The topography is high in the south and low in the north. The area of the southern low hills and the northern water network plain is mixed, showing a pattern of "five mountains, one water and four fields". It has jurisdiction over 7 subdistricts, 10 towns and 3 townships. According to the seventh census data, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Shangyu District is 839,700.

Shangyu District is a comprehensive new city with riverside characteristics and relatively complete functions in the east of the central city of Shaoxing. It is the provincial regional transportation hub center, Shaoxing business center and the new business capital of East Zhejiang. Within the territory of highways, high-speed rail, railway, port, canal, etc., Jiashao bridge makes Shaoxing City into Shanghai two-hour traffic circle. In 2020, the GDP of Shangyu District reached 104.382 billion yuan, an increase of 4.6% according to comparable prices.
