Shaodong, Hunan Province county level city, by Shaoyang city, alias Zhaoyang, is located in the east of Shaoyang City, the rise of the terrain north and south, the central uplift, the east and west tilt, jurisdiction over 3 streets, 18 towns, 4 towns, 1 field and a provincial economic development area. With an area of 1,778 square kilometers and a population of 1.345 million, it is known as the "Hometown of 100 industries", "City of commerce" and "capital of Private enterprises".

Shaodong main mineral deposits are gypsum, coal, lead, zinc, manganese, iron. National Highway 320, provincial Highway S315, Tan-Shao Expressway, Heng-Shao Expressway, Luo-Shao Railway, Luo-Zhan Railway and Huaiheng Railway pass through the border. Scenic spots and historic sites include the Houcheng ruins in Zhaoyang, Yunlin Temple in Sheshu Mountain, Hanmo Pool in Jiulong Ridge, Yinjia Hall and ancient Shantang House in Ming and Qing Dynasties, Hongqiao and so on.

On January 29, 2021, it was selected into the list of regions with remarkable achievements in 2020 published by Hunan Provincial People's Government.
