Shaoshan City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province, is administered by Xiangtan City, located in the hilly region of Xiangzhong in the east of central Hunan Province in the south of central China. Shaoshan is located in the west of Xiangtan City, adjacent to Mashan Township, Zhushiqiao Township and Sanxian ao Township of Ningxiang City in the north and east, bounded by Lianghu Township and Nanzhushan Township of Xiangtan County in the southeast, bordered by Longdong Township, Baitian Township and Jinshi Township of Xiangxiang City in the south, and adjacent to Baitian and Jinshi Township of Xiangxiang City in the west. The administrative area is 247.33 square kilometers. Jurisdiction over Qingxi Town, Yintian Town 2 towns, Shaoshan Township, Yanglin Township 2 towns, Shaoshan City government in Qingxi Town. According to the seventh census, the permanent population of Shaoshan was 103,357 as of midnight on November 1, 2020.

In December 2019, it became a pilot unit for the construction of the country's rural governance system. In 2020, Shaoshan's GDP reached 9.708 billion yuan, an increase of 4.2% over the previous year. On January 29, 2021, it was selected into the list of regions with remarkable achievements in 2020 published by Hunan Provincial People's Government.
