Shexian County, subordinate to Huangshan City of Anhui Province, is located in the south of Anhui Province. Its geographical coordinates are between 118°15 '-- 118°53' east longitude and 29°30 '-- 30°7' north latitude, with a total area of 2122 square kilometers. It borders Jixi County and Lin 'an District of Zhejiang Province in the northeast, Chun 'an County and Kaihua County of Zhejiang Province in the southeast, Tunxi District and Xiuning County in the southwest, and Huizhou District and Huangshan District in the northwest. It is a subtropical monsoon climate with four distinct seasons and abundant rainfall. By the end of 2020, Shexian County had jurisdiction over 15 towns and 13 townships with a permanent resident population of 363,000. In 2020, the GDP of Shexian County reached 20.15 billion yuan, an increase of 2.0% year on year.

Shexian County is a national historical and cultural city. The county was set up in the Qin Dynasty and Huizhou government was set up in the Song Dynasty. It has been the political, economic and cultural center of ancient Huizhou for 1400 years. Shexian County is the birthplace of Huizhou culture as well as the main birthplace of Huizhou merchants and Anhui cuisine. It is the main producing area of Hui Inkstone and She Inkstone, the four treasures of the study, and has been successively awarded the honorary titles of "Capital of Chinese Hui Inkstone", "Home of Chinese She Inkstone", "Home of Hui Opera" and "Home of Chinese Archway". The ancient city of Huizhou, together with Lijiang in Yunnan Province, Pingyao in Shanxi Province and Langzhong in Sichuan Province, is one of the four most well-preserved ancient cities in China. It is known as the "Hometown of Zulu and Huizang in Southeast China", "Sea of Cultural Relics", "Hometown of Cheng and Zhu" and "Land of Rites".

In Shexian County, there are Huizhou Ancient City, Baojia Garden, Xin 'an River Landscape Gallery, Xiongcun Village, Tangyue Tablets Cluster, Huizhou National Forest Park, Qingliang Feng National Nature Reserve, Nanyuan Tower, Zhongjie Ancestral Hall, Yuliang Dam, Zheng Ancestral Hall, Zhushan Academy, Xu Village Ancient Architecture complex, Xin 'an Monument Park, Dooshan Street and other scenic spots.
