Shiqu County, subordinate to Ganzi Prefecture of Sichuan Province, is located at the junction of Sichuan, Qinghai and Tibet provinces on the southeast edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Shiqu starts from the southern foot of Bayankala Mountain in the north and ends at the Mora Mountain section of Shaluli Mountain in the south. It borders Yushu Prefecture in Qinghai in the northwest, faces Jiangda County in Tibet across the river in the southwest, and borders Seda County and Dege County in the southeast. The total area is 25191 square kilometers. Shiqu County is deeply inland and the terrain is greatly uplifted. The horizontal zonality of the climate is replaced by the vertical zonality of the monsoon plateau climate. As of October 2021, Shiqu County has jurisdiction over 7 towns and 14 townships. The county government is located in Diniga Town. According to the data of the seventh population census, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Shiqu County was 103633.

The Tibetan name of Shiqu is "Zhaxika", which means the source of Yalong River. Shiqu is a transliteration of "Sexu" in Tibetan, and is named after the "Sexu Gongba", a Huangjiao temple in the territory. In 1950, it belonged to Xikang Tibetan Autonomous Region. In October 1955, it belonged to Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province. In October 1955, it belonged to Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province. In Shiqu County, there is Mashi Highway connecting the north line of Sichuan-Tibet Highway in the south (National Highway 317); Shiqu Xiewu (Xiewu, Qinghai) Highway. Shiqu County has Zhaxika, Pugongba Grassland, Dandagou, Zhajiaba Wetland, Gayi Hot Spring and other scenic spots.

In 2020, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Shiqu County will reach 1956.37 million yuan, with a growth rate of 2.6%.On September 25, 2018, it was awarded the honorary title of "2018 Comprehensive Demonstration County of E-commerce in Rural Areas" by the Ministry of Commerce. On November 12, 2021, it was recognized by the General Office of Sichuan Provincial People's Government as the fifth batch of "four good rural roads" provincial demonstration counties. In August 2021, it was listed as the national key county for rural revitalization.
