Shixing County, under the jurisdiction of Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province, is located in the north of Guangdong Province, at the southern foot of the Nanling Mountains, in the upper reaches of the Beijiang River and the middle reaches of the Zhenjiang River. It spans 113 ° 54 ′ - 114 ° 22 ′ E and 24 ° 31 ′ - 25 ° 60 ′ N. The total area is 2131 square kilometers. Shixing County is located in the subtropical zone, with sufficient heat and rainfall throughout the year. The alternation between cold and warm is obvious. It is cold and rainy in spring, hot and humid in summer, warm in the day and cool in the night in autumn, and cold and rainy in winter. By 2017, Shixing County had jurisdiction over 9 towns and 1 township. The county government is stationed in Taiping Town. According to the data of the seventh population census, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Shixing County was 198060.

In the spring of the sixth year of Sun Xiu Yong'an's reign (263), Sun Wu, in order to strengthen the development of Lingnan region and build a strategic rear, analyzed that Nanxiang of Nanye County was located in Shixing County. The name "Shixing" starts here. In June 1983, Shaoguan District and Shaoguan City were merged, and the county was under the jurisdiction of Shaoguan City, and Shixing County was under the jurisdiction of Shaoguan City. [6] The National Highway 323 and Provincial Highway S244, which connect the National Highway 106 in Shixing County, run through the whole territory. It is only 3 hours' drive from Shixing to Guangzhou via Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway.

Shixing County has a long history and culture, with a history of more than 1700 years. It is the hometown of Zhang Jiuling, the famous prime minister of the Tang Dynasty, Tan Dachu, the secretary of the Ministry of Household of the Ming Dynasty, Zhang Fakui, the famous anti-Japanese general, and Zhu Xiping, the mathematician. It was known as the "granary of northern Guangdong" in ancient times, and is now known as the "Pearl of Nanling". Shixing is a pure guest living county, and Hakka is spoken throughout the territory. Shixing County is officially recognized by the United Nations as "the cultural heritage of China's geographical names - a thousand-year-old ancient county" and "the hometown of China's Weilou culture".

In 2020, Shixing County's GDP was 8.025 billion yuan, up 3.0% year on year, of which the added value of the primary industry was 2.378 billion yuan, up 3.5%, the contribution rate of economic growth was 30.7%, the added value of the secondary industry was 2.082 billion yuan, up 3.4%, the contribution rate of economic growth was 31.8%, and the added value of the tertiary industry was 3.565 billion yuan, up 2.4%.

On October 9, 2020, it was awarded the title of the fourth batch of national ecological civilization construction demonstration cities and counties by the Ministry of Ecological Environment.
