Shuangfeng County, belonging to Loudi City of Hunan Province, is located in the hinterland of central Hunan, adjacent to Xiangtan County and Hengshan County in the east, Hengyang County in the south, Shaodong City and Lianyuan City in the west, and Loudi City and Xiangxiang City in the north. It is 61 kilometers long from east to west, 59.2 kilometers wide from north to south, with a total area of 1596 square kilometers. As of July 2019, Shuangfeng County has jurisdiction over 11 towns, 3 townships and 2 subdistricts. According to the seventh census, the permanent population of Shuangfeng County was 685,917 as of midnight on November 1, 2020.

During the period of the Republic of China, Shuangfeng belongs to Xiangxiang County. In August 1951, Xiangxiang County, three, six, seven districts to establish Shuangfeng County, Yiyang district, Yongfeng Town county. In July 1999, Loudi area was set up as a city, and Shuangfeng belonged to Loudi City. In 2020, the annual GDP of Shuangfeng County reached 26.6 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 4.3 percent.

On April 16, 2019, the People's Government of Hunan Province, through a field inspection and a third-party field assessment, confirmed that Shuangfeng County met the conditions to be removed from poverty alleviation. On January 29, 2021, it was selected into the list of regions with remarkable achievements in 2020 published by Hunan Provincial People's Government.
