Sui County is subordinate to Shangqiu City, Henan Province. It is located in the middle east of Henan Province and the west of Shangqiu City. It is adjacent to Ningling County in the east, Qixian County in the west, Minquan County in the north, Zhecheng County and Taikang County in the south. The total area is 926 square kilometers. The population is 910000. As of October 2021, Sui County has jurisdiction over 8 towns and 12 townships. The county government is located in suburban villages.

Sui County was named after Suishui in ancient times, which was called Xiangyi, Gongzhou and Suizhou in ancient times. In Qin Dynasty, Xiangyi County was set as Dang County. In July of the 16th year of the Republic of China (July 1927), part of Qi County and Sui County were set up as Minquan County. In 1997, Shangqiu District was abolished and a prefecture level Shangqiu City was established. Sui County belongs to Shangqiu City. On May 9, 2019, the People's Government of Henan Province approved Sui County to withdraw from the poverty county sequence.
