Susong County, subordinate to Anqing City of Anhui Province, is a direct-guan county of Anhui Province. It is located at the junction of Anhui, Hubei and Jiangxi provinces and on the north bank of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Its geographical coordinates are between 115°52 '-- 116°34' 40 "east longitude and 29°47 '20" -- 30°25' 30 "north latitude, with a total area of 2394 square kilometers. Susong County is a subtropical monsoon humid climate. By the end of 2020, Susong County has a permanent population of 612,600. As of May 2022, Susong County has jurisdiction over 2 subdistricts, 9 towns and 12 townships. The people's government of Susong County is located on Taibai Road.
In the fourth year after Emperor Gaozu of Han Dynasty (184 BC), the kingdom of the Marquis of Songzi was established. In the eighteenth year of Emperor Wen of Sui Dynasty (598), it was renamed Susong County and still in use today, with a history of more than 2,200 years. In 2011, Susong was established as a pilot county of Anhui Province directly administered county system. It is located at the top of Wanjiang River for 800 miles, and is traversed by 105 National Highway, Shanghai-Chengdu Expressway, Hejiu Railway and 63 kilometers of Yangtze River Waterway. It is within two hours' drive from Hefei, Wuhan, Nanchang and other central cities. It is one of the members of Wanjiang City Belt. It is the birthplace of Huangmei Opera, one of China's four major local operas, and the folk opera Wennan Ci has been included in the national intangible Cultural Heritage list. It is the hometown of Chinese poetry. In October 2021, it was selected as the fourth Demonstration County of Ecological Civilization Construction in Anhui Province. In 2022, it will be selected into the national youth development pilot county list.
