Teng County is subordinate to Wuzhou City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, bordering Cangwu County, Changzhou District and Longpolder District on the east, Cenxi City and Rong County of Yulin City on the south, Pingnan County of Guigang City on the west, and Mengshan County and Zhaoping County on the north. It is 55 kilometers away from Wuzhou Municipal Government, between 23°02 '35" ~ 24°03' 09" north latitude, 110°21 '00" ~ 111°11' 27" east longitude. In 2008, it was named "Ten Best Counties in Guangxi for Scientific Development".

In 2021, the county achieved a gross regional product (GDP) of 26.838 billion yuan, an increase of 10.6% year-on-year at comparable prices.

Tengxian County was called Tengzhou in ancient times. It accepted the culture of Central Plains earlier and was one of the counties in Guangxi with profound historical and cultural accumulation. It was the hometown of Yuan Chonghuan, the military secretary in the Chongzhen period of Ming Dynasty, Li Xiucheng, the King of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, Chen Yucheng, and Li Shixian. In November 2019, it was selected into the second batch of water-saving social construction standard counties (districts).
On May 9, 2020, it was approved by the People's Government of Guangxi Autonomous Region to withdraw from the poverty-stricken county list.
