Tengchong, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Yunnan Province and managed by Baoshan City, is located in the southwest of Yunnan Province, in the west of Baoshan City, connected with Longyang District in the east, Longling County and Lianghe County in the south, Yingjiang County and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in the west, and Lushui City, Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture in the northeast. The urban area is 606 kilometers away from Kunming, the provincial capital, 200 kilometers away from Myitkyina, Myanmar, and 602 kilometers away from Redo, India. It is an important gateway and node for China to South Asia and Southeast Asia. By 2020, it covers an area of 5845 square kilometers, and the border line is 148.075 kilometers long, with 10 towns, 7 townships and 2 streets. By the end of 2021, the total permanent resident population was 643000. The government is stationed in Tengyue Street.

Tengchong City is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese, the state of literature and the jade distribution center, and also a provincial historical and cultural city. Tengchong was called Dianyue in the Western Han Dynasty, and Tengchong Prefecture was established in the middle of Dali State. Due to its important geographical location, all dynasties have sent heavy troops to garrison it. In the Ming Dynasty, Stone City was also built, which is called "the first city in the extreme". The main tourist attractions in Tengchong include Volcano Group National Park, Dieshui River Falls, Beihai Wetland Reserve, Memorial Memorial Cemetery, Aisiqi Former Residence, etc.
