Wanshan county/District, located in Tongren City, Guizhou Province, is the main urban area of Tongren City. It is dominated by karst karst landforms and belongs to the subtropical monsoon humid climate. In November 2011, The State Council approved and agreed to revoke the establishment of prefectural Tongren City in Tongren region and set up Wanshan District. It now covers an area of 842 square kilometers and has jurisdiction over 11 townships (towns and streets). According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Wanshan District was 160,624.

Wanshan is an important transportation hub connecting Sichuan and Chongqing to Jiangda Sea in the east, Shanghai and Hangzhou to Guizhou and Yunnan in the west, Beijing and Tianjin to Guiqiong in the south, and Guangzhou and Shenzhen to Shaanxi and Gansu in the north. There are three expressways passing through it, namely Shanghai-Kunming, Hang-Rui and Huan-Province. It is surrounded by three railways, namely Hunan-Guizhou Railway, Zhuliu-Compound Railway Line and Yu-Huai-Compound Railway Line. It takes 10 minutes to reach Tongren Railway Station, Tongren High-Speed Railway Station and Zhusha Ancient Town Station; 30 minutes to reach Dalong Railway Station, Yuping Railway Station, Xinhuang Railway Station and Tongren South Railway Station of Shanghai-Kunming high-speed Railway; and 1 hour to reach Huaihua Railway Station of Hunan Province. [1-2] In September 2018, with the approval of the Poverty Alleviation Office of The State Council and the approval of the provincial people's government, the poverty-stricken counties were listed as a whole with zero missed assessment, zero error returns, a comprehensive poverty incidence rate of 1.19% and public recognition of 96.37% [3]. In March 2019, Wanshan District was listed as one of the first counties for the protection and utilization of revolutionary cultural relics.

In 2020, the annual GDP of Wanshan District completed 7.798 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 5.8%.
