Wencheng County, located in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, was established in 1946 from the border area of Ruian, Qingtian and Taishun counties. It was named "Wencheng" after the posthumous title of Liu Ji (Liu Bowen), the founding father of the Ming Dynasty. Wencheng County is the second largest hometown of overseas Chinese in Zhejiang Province, the old revolutionary base county, and the national key ecological function area. According to the seventh census, Wencheng County had a permanent population of 28,168 as of midnight on November 1, 2020.
Wencheng County is located in the southern mountainous area of Zhejiang Province, southwest of Wenzhou City, middle and upper reaches of Feiyun River, east of Ruian City, south of Pingyang County, Cangnan County, southwest of Taishun County, Jingning She Autonomous County, north of Qingtian County. The county is 274 km away from the provincial capital Hangzhou, 62 km away from Wenzhou city (all straight-line distance), and an hour's drive from Wenzhou. The total area is 1292.16 square kilometers. In July 2020, Wencheng County was confirmed by the National Health Care Committee as the national Health Township County in 2019. In 2020, the GDP of Wencheng County was 11.201 billion yuan, an increase of 3.5% over the previous year based on comparable prices.
