Wuchuan Gelao and Miao Autonomous County (Wuchuan County for short) is an autonomous county under the jurisdiction of Zunyi City of Guizhou Province. It is located at the boundary of Guizhou and Chongqing. It is one of the two autonomous counties for ethnic minorities with Gelao as the main nationality in China.
Located in the northeast of Guizhou Province, Buchuan County is connected with Dejiang County and Yanhe Tujia Autonomous County on the east, Zheng 'an County and Daozhen Gelao and Miao Autonomous County on the west, Fenggang County on the south, and Pengshui Tujia Autonomous County of Miao Nationality in Chongqing on the north. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on Nov 1, 2020, the permanent population of Wuchuan Gelao and Miao Autonomous County was 308,466.
By the end of 2020, it covers an area of 2,777 square kilometers, and has jurisdiction over 3 sub-districts, 11 towns, 2 townships, 81 villages and 42 communities. The minority population, mainly composed of Gelao and Miao ethnic groups, accounts for 96.56% of the total population.
In 2020, the county's GDP was 8.497 billion yuan. On April 24, 2019, the People's Government of Guizhou Province officially approved Wuchuan Gelao and Miao Autonomous County to be removed from the poverty-stricken county list. [3] On February 2, 2019, it was rated as the national Advanced unit of grassroots traditional Chinese medicine by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. On July 29, 2020, it was selected into the national Health township (county) naming list during the 2017-2019 cycle.
