Wuwei City, known as Ruoxu in ancient times, is a county-level city administered by Wuhu City. It is located in the central part of Anhui Province, on the north bank of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, bordered by Chaohu City and Hanshan County in the north, Jiujiang District of Wuhu City in the east, suburban Tongling City in the south, and Zhongyang County and Lujiang County in the west. It belongs to the north subtropical monsoon climate zone with a total area of 2022 square kilometers. As of November 2022, Wuwei Municipality has jurisdiction over 20 towns. By the end of 2021, the permanent population of Wuwei City is 825,000.

Wuwei has a history of more than 1,400 years since it was founded in the Sui Dynasty. The name of Wuwei City is "thinking the world is content with nothing, nothing but governance". Spring and Autumn Warring States period, no city is Chu home; In April, the first year of the Republic of China (1912), Wuwei County was changed into a state; On July 14, 2011, Wuwei County, formerly under the jurisdiction of Chaohu City, was put under the jurisdiction of Wuhu City. In 2019, The State Council approved the abolition of Wuwei County and the establishment of county-level Wuwei City.

In 2021, Wuwei achieved a gross regional product of 57.776 billion yuan, an increase of 10.5 percent over the previous year.
