Xetongmen County is located in the northwest of Xigatse City and on the north bank of the Yarlung Zangbo River in the Tibet Autonomous Region. It is adjacent to Nanmulin County and Sangzhuzi District of Shigatse City in the east, Shenzha County of Naqu City in the north, Angren County in the west, and Saga County and Lazi County in the south. Located in east longitude 87°4 'to 89°1', north latitude 29°18 'to 30°26', the county people's government in Kaga Town. The county is 83 km from the people's government of Shigatse City. As of 2014, Xetongmen County has jurisdiction over 1 town and 18 townships. The total area is 13,960 square kilometers. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Xetongmen county was 45,573.

In November 2019, Xetongmen County was named as the national model county of "Four Good Rural Roads".

On December 9, 2019, Xetongmen County of Xigatse was approved by the People's government of the Autonomous Region to withdraw from the poverty-stricken county (district).

In 2020, the GDP of Xetongmen County reached 1.585 billion yuan, and the per capita disposable income of farmers and herdsmen was 13,220 yuan.
