Xiangxiang City is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Xiangtan City in Hunan Province. It is located in the east-central part of Hunan Province, bordering Shaoshan City and Xiangtan County on the east, Shuangfeng County on the south, Loudi City on the west and Ningxiang City on the north. The total area is 1966.21 square kilometers. Accounting for 0.95% of the total area of Hunan Province. It has jurisdiction over 4 subdistricts, 15 towns and 3 townships.

Xiang Township was called "Dragon City" in ancient times. In the fourth year of Jianping in the Western Han Dynasty (the first three years), the Emperor Liu Xin named Liu Chang, Prince of Changsha, the Marquis of Xiang Township, which was the beginning of the establishment of Xiang Township. Xiangxiang is an important birthplace of Huxiang culture, the origin of Hunan Army and the cradle of Red. The famous figures mainly included Jiang Wan, the minister of Shu of The Three Kingdoms, Wang Rong, the top scholar of Song Dynasty, Feng Zizhen, the literary master of Yuan Dynasty, Zeng Guofan, the general of Hunan Army, Liu Jintang, the "flying general" who helped to suppress the rebellion in Xinjiang, Gong Tiezheng, the pioneer of the Revolution of 1911, the outstanding general of the Red Army Huang Gongleng, senior generals Chen Geng and Tan Zheng, etc. The main scenic spots include Dongtai Mountain, Baozhong Mountain, Shuifu Temple, Shaoshan Irrigation Canal, etc. Xiangxiang has Dongshan Academy, a national key cultural relic protection unit, and 4 provincial cultural relic protection units. More than 5000 ancient tombs and a large number of Chu slips have been discovered since the Warring States period.

By the end of 2021, Xiangxiang City registered population of 909,600. In 2021, the regional GDP of Xiangxiang City reached 54.56 billion yuan, of which the added value of the primary industry was 6.891 billion yuan, the secondary industry was 28.828 billion yuan, the tertiary industry was 18.841 billion yuan, and the tertiary industry structure was 12.6:52.8:34.5. Based on the permanent population, the per capita GDP was 75,318 yuan.

In November 2022, Xiangxiang City was approved as the national "Four good Rural Road" demonstration county.
