Xiangyun County is one of the counties under the jurisdiction of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province. It is located in the central and west of Yunnan Province, bordering Dayao, Yao'an and Nanhua counties in the east, Midu County in the south, Dali City in the west, and Binchuan County in the north. Xiangyun is one of the counties with earlier development and better economic development in Yunnan. It has long been the political, economic and cultural center of northwest Yunnan. The name of Yunnan Province originates from Yunnan County, which was located in Xiangyun in history, so Xiangyun has the reputation of "hometown of colorful clouds" and "source of Yunnan". It covers an area of 2425 square kilometers and governs 1191 village (residential) groups of 139 village (residential) committees in 8 towns and 2 townships. Xiangyun County is the traffic throat of western Yunnan, the only way to the eight prefectures in western Yunnan, the east gate of Dali, only 282 kilometers from Kunming, and 48 kilometers from Dali Airport. On September 29, 2018, Xiangyun County was approved to withdraw from the poverty-stricken county after being studied by Yunnan Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government. On February 2, 2019, it was rated by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine as an advanced unit in the work of traditional Chinese medicine at the national grass-roots level at the county level.
