Xinyi, formerly known as Douzhou. Guangdong Province administers county-level cities and is managed by Maoming City. Located in the southwest of Guangdong Province and the north of Maoming City, it borders Yangchun in the east, Gaozhou in the south, Beiliu and Rongxian in Guangxi in the west, and Luoding and Cenxi in Guangxi in the north. In the fourth year of Wude in the Tang Dynasty (621), Xinyi County was renamed Xinyi County in the fifth year of Taiping and Xingguo in the Song Dynasty (976). In 1995, Xinyi County was removed from the county and established as a city (county level).

In 2022, the city will have jurisdiction over 18 towns, 2 sub-district offices and 402 village (residential) committees. The land area of the city is 3101.7 square kilometers. By the end of 2021, the total registered residence population of the city will be 1517500, and the permanent population will be 1016300.

Xinyi is rich in resources, known as the "Jade Capital of the South", "Home of Bamboo Weaving", "Home of Water and Electricity", "Home of Sanhua Li", "Home of Nanyao", "Mountain Chicken Kingdom", and so on. There are 32 kinds of minerals that have been proved. Silver rock tin mine is the third largest tin mine in China, and Dongkeng gold mine is the second largest gold mine in Guangdong Province. Nanyu is the only "southern jasper" in China. Xinyi has beautiful scenery. The developed tourist attractions include Tianma Mountain Ecotourism Area, Xijiang Hot Spring Resort, Zhenlong Shuxiang Bafang Scenic Spot, Shigen Mountain, Daren Mountain, Jiamen Gorge Rafting, Lotus Lake Manor, "Jinjiang Gallery" Bidao, etc. Among them, Datianding, located in Yunkai Mountain National Nature Reserve, is 1704 meters above sea level, the highest peak in western Guangdong and the second highest peak in Guangdong.

Xinyi is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in Guangdong Province and a key hometown of overseas Chinese in Maoming City. It has successively won the titles of "National Ecological Protection and Construction Demonstration Area", "National Key Ecological Functional Area", "Capital of Jade in South China", "Town of Longevity in China", "Town of Mercy and Filial Piety Culture in China", "County with Basic Equilibrium in the Development of National Compulsory Education", and "Guangdong Province's Strong City in Education". In December 2020, the Academy of Social Sciences released the Top 400 List of China's County Economic Development Report, ranking Xinyi 193th.

In 2021, Xinyi City will achieve a gross regional product (preliminary accounting) of 52.223 billion yuan, an increase of 7.1% over the previous year.
