Yichuan County is located in the west of Henan Province, bordering Luoyang, the ancient capital of the Thirteen Dynasties, Songxian County in the south and Yiyang County in the west. Yichuan County is located in the shallow mountain and hilly area of western Henan Province. It now has jurisdiction over 12 towns, 1 township, 2 sub district offices, 359 administrative villages, 10 urban communities, and 1 provincial-level industrial cluster, with a total area of 1059 square kilometers. It is one of the 23 first batch of key counties for opening up to the outside world and 35 counties for power expansion determined by the provincial party committee and government.

Yichuan County has successively won the honorary titles of National Science and Technology Advanced County, National Garden County, National Health County, National Ecological Demonstration Area Construction Advanced County, Provincial Model County for Double Support, Advanced County for Opening to the Outside World, and Advanced County for Economic and Social Development Assessment of Cities and Counties.

On May 9, 2019, after the provincial special evaluation and inspection, it reached the poverty eradication standard and officially withdrew from the poverty county sequence.

On July 29, 2020, it was selected into the list of reconfirmed national health towns (counties) in 2019.

In 2021, Yichuan County will achieve an annual GDP of 45.52 billion yuan, an increase of 5.3% over the previous year. The added value of the primary industry was 3.2 billion yuan, up 7.2%; The added value of the secondary industry was 20.32 billion yuan, up 4.3%; The added value of the tertiary industry was 22 billion yuan, up 6.0%.
