Yiwu, known as "Wushang" in ancient times, is a county-level city administered by Jinhua City in Zhejiang Province. It is a type II big city. Jinhua - Yiwu (central Zhejiang), Hangzhou (northern Zhejiang), Ningbo (eastern Zhejiang), Wenzhou (southern Zhejiang) are the four regional central cities of Zhejiang. Located in the middle of Zhejiang Province, located in the east of Jinqu Basin, the city is surrounded by mountains on the east, south and north. It is 58.15 kilometers long from north to south, 44.41 kilometers wide from east to west, and covers an area of 1105.46 square kilometers. According to the seventh census data, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent resident population of Yiwu is 1,859,390.

Yiwu has produced Luo Bin Wang, one of the "Four heroes of the Early Tang Dynasty", Zong Ze of the Song Dynasty, Zhu Danxi, one of the four famous doctors of the Gold and Yuan dynasties, modern educator Chen Wangdao, literary theorist Feng Xuefeng, historian Wu Han and other historical celebrities.

Yiwu is the National Comprehensive Reform Pilot Zone, National Civilized City, National Health City, National Environmental Protection Model City, China Excellent Tourism City, National Garden City, National Forest City, Zhejiang Civilized Demonstration City, Zhejiang High quality development and construction of common prosperity demonstration zone pilot area. Yiwu is one of the richest regions in China and the world's largest small commodity distribution center. It has been identified as the world's largest market by the United Nations, the World Bank and other international authorities, and is listed as the first batch of national comprehensive pilot areas for new urbanization. Yiwu International Trade City was awarded the first AAAA level shopping and tourism area in China by China National Tourism Administration.

In 2021, Yiwu's gross regional product (GDP) reached 173.016 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 11.6%; Ranked 10th on the list of China's Top Ten counties with GDP in 2021.
