Yuanqu County, subordinate to Yuncheng City of Shanxi Province, is located in the south of Shanxi Province and the northeast corner of Yuncheng City. It borders Yangcheng and Qinshui Counties in the northeast, Yicheng and Jiangxian counties in the north, Wenxi County in the west, Xia County in the southwest, Jiyuan City in Henan Province in the east, and Mianchi County and Xin 'an County in Henan Province in the south across the river. The county covers an area of 1620 square kilometers, with 11 townships and 71 administrative villages under its jurisdiction.
