Yuexi County, subordinate to Anqing City of Anhui Province, is located in the hinterland of Dabie Mountain, southwest of Anhui Province and west of Anqing City. It borders Qianshan City in the east, Yingshan County of Hubei Province in the west, Taihu County in the south, and Shucheng County and Huoshan County in the north. It is located between east longitude 115°55 '-- 116°33' and north latitude 30°39 '-- 31°11', with a total area of 2398 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 14 towns and 10 townships.

Yuexi County because of "new county area is suitable for Qianyue (refers to the ancient south Yue, namely today Tianzhu Mountain) west, namely named Yuexi". With a forest coverage rate of 76%, it is a national demonstration area for ecological protection and construction and a national garden county. It has five national 4A scenic spots, such as Tianxia Scenic Spot, Mingtang Mountain and Rainbow Waterfall. It also has Youluoping National Nature Reserve, Miaodaoshan National Forest Park and Sikong Mountain, which is praised by Zhao Puchu as "the first Chinese Zen Mountain". Located in Shiguan Township, Yuexi County, the Shiguan National Sports Training Base was awarded as the outstanding "National Comprehensive Sports Training Base" by the General Administration of Sport of the State in 2015. Many Olympic and world champions have trained here.

By the end of 2021, the registered population of Yuexi County is 412,518. In 2021, the gross regional product (GDP) of Yuexi County reached 129.252 billion yuan, of which the added value of the primary industry was 1.83853 billion yuan, that of the secondary industry was 4.37797 billion yuan and that of the tertiary industry was 6.708.7 billion yuan. The tertiary industrial structure is 14.2:33.9:51.9.
