Yuping Dong Autonomous County is under the jurisdiction of Tongren City, Guizhou Province. The county is located between 108°34 '-- 109°09' east longitude and 27°28 '-- 27°31' north latitude. The county borders Xinhuang, Hunan Province in the southeast, Zhenyuan and Cengong in the west, Bijiang District and Wanshan District in the north, with a diameter distance of 36 kilometers from east to west and 42 kilometers from north to south, covering a total area of 523.78 square kilometers [21]. The people's government of the county locates in Zaojioping Sub-district. According to the seventh census, the permanent population of Yuping Dong Autonomous County was 150,457 as of midnight on November 1, 2020.
Originally Yuping County, it was founded in the fifth year of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty (1727). On November 7, 1984, with the approval of The State Council, Yuping County was abolished and Yuping Dong Autonomous County was established.
In August 2019, it was selected as a pilot county for the construction of a compact county medical community. On July 29, 2020, it was selected into the national Health township (county) naming list for the 2017-2019 cycle. In 2020, the GDP of Yuping Dong Autonomous County was 9.453 billion yuan, an increase of 0.3 percent over the previous year based on comparable prices.
