Zayu County is a district of Nyingchi City, Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. It is located in the southeast of Tibet Autonomous Region, bordering Deqin County, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province, Gongshan Dulong Nu Autonomous County, Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province, Zuogong County, Qamdo City, Metuo County, Myanmar and India to the south, and Bomi County and Badu County, Qamdo City, to the north. The total area of the county is 31,153 square kilometers, with an average altitude of 2,800 meters. By the end of 2018, Zayu County had jurisdiction over 3 townships, 3 towns, 96 administrative villages and 1 Jigong Neighborhood Committee. According to the Seventh Census, as of 0:00 on 1 November 2020, the permanent population of Chayu County was 28,237.
Zhaoxu County is rich in natural resources, and the terrain slopes from northwest to southeast. It has an excellent characteristic conditions for the development of agriculture and animal husbandry with mild climate, abundant rainfall, abundant sunshine and long frost-free period. There are dozens of large, medium and small rivers, mainly Chayu River and Nu River, which are tributaries of the Yarlung Zangbo River, with great potential for exploitation and utilization of hydropower resources. It is located at an important node of the new Yunnan-Tibet passage and on the Grand Shangri-La eco-tourism Circle. It is the only place to pass through and stop in the new grand Sichuan-Yunnan-Tibet traffic circle. The forest coverage rate of the county is up to 60%, with a wide variety of precious understory resources and rare protected animals, containing dozens of rare minerals such as gold, silver, copper and tin, which has great potential for development. There are also ten ethnic groups including Tibetan, Han, Naxi, Dulong, Miao, Hui, Monba, Lhoba, Lisu and Nu people, who share the 588.64 km border with Deng.
In 2020, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Chayu County was 1.144 billion yuan, an increase of 8.1%.
On February 6, 2019, the People's Government of Tibet Autonomous Region decided to withdraw Chayu County from poverty.
