Zengcheng District, subordinate to Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, is located in the central part of Guangdong Province, the eastern part of Guangzhou City, and the northeast corner of the Pearl River Delta. It borders Boluo County, Huizhou City in the east, Huangpu District in the west, Dongguan City across the river in the south, Conghua District and Longmen County, Huizhou City in the north, with a total area of 1616.47 square kilometers. In 2020, Zengcheng District will have a registered residence population of 1019500. As of October 2021, Zengcheng District has 6 streets and 7 towns under its jurisdiction. The district government is stationed at No. 1, Huimin Road.
According to the Annals of Yuanhe County, "Zengcheng County is named after Langfeng and Zengcheng on the Kunlun Mountains". In the Han Dynasty, Panyu County was located in Zengcheng County. It has a history of more than 1800 years. In 2007, it was designated as the "Millennium Ancient County" by the United Nations Geographical Names Organization, and was one of the earliest places where ancient people lived in Guangzhou. In the Ming Dynasty, Longmen County was set up in the northeast. In 1993, Zengcheng County was abolished and a county-level Zengcheng City was established. In 2014, the county-level Zengcheng City was abolished and Guangzhou Zengcheng District was established.
Zengcheng is one of the key overseas Chinese towns in Guangdong. There are five national geographical indications to protect agricultural products: Zengcheng Hanglv, Zengcheng Lichi, Paitan Liangfen Grass, Zengcheng Simiao Rice, Zengcheng Chili Heart. It is the manufacturing base of auto parts in China, the advantageous area of agricultural products with Chinese characteristics, and the national urban-rural integration development pilot zone.
In 2020, the GDP of Zengcheng District was 106.264 billion yuan, up 5.1% from the previous year. Among them, the added value of the primary industry is 6.32 billion yuan, and the added value of the secondary industry is 41.263 billion yuan. The added value of the tertiary industry is 58.681 billion yuan, and the proportion of the added value of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries is 5.95:38.83:55.22.
