Zhalantun City is a county-level city administered by Hulunbuir City. It is the political, economic, cultural, medical and transportation center of Lingdong region of Inner Mongolia, the deputy central city of Hulunbuir, China's excellent tourist city and one of the commodity trading centers of Hulunbuir City. Located in the eastern part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the eastern foot of the Great Khingan Mountains at the southern end of Hulunbuir City, adjacent to A Rong Qi in the east, adjacent to Gannan and Longjiang Counties of Qiqihar City and Jalainte Banner of Hinggan League in Heilongjiang Province in the south, connected to Arshan City of Hingqi League and Ewenki Autonomous Banner of Hulunbuir City in the west, and Yakeshi City in the north. The total administrative area of the city covers 16,926.3 square kilometers. It consists of Mongolian, Han, Daur, Oroqen, Ewenki and other 20 ethnic groups.

In March 2020, it won the title of "Advanced County in National Village Cleaning Action" and was praised by the Central Agriculture Office and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. According to the 7th Census, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, the resident population of Jalan Tun was 318,933. In 2020, the annual GDP of Zalantun reached 15.334.29 million yuan, down 2.7 percent year on year based on comparable prices.
