Zhangbei County, under the jurisdiction of Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, is located in Bashang area in the northwest of Hebei Province and the southern edge of Inner Mongolia Plateau. It is located between 40 ° 57 '~41 ° 34' north latitude and 114 ° 10 '~115 ° 27' east longitude. The county has a total area of 4185 square kilometers, a continental monsoon climate in the middle temperate zone, with an annual average temperature of 3.2 ℃. As of October 2021, Zhangbei County has jurisdiction over 7 towns and 11 townships, and the county government is stationed in Zhangbei Town. As of February 2022, Zhangbei County has a registered residence population of 356000 and a permanent population of 308000.

During the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, a nomadic tribe lived in the vast area of northern China, including Zhangbei County, which was called "Ghost Fang". On January 30, 2005, the People's Government of Hebei Province determined that Zhangbei County was subordinate to Zhangjiakou City. The two expressways of Zhang Shi and Zhang Cheng and the seven national and provincial trunk lines are unblocked throughout the region. The Taiyuan Wuxi Railway passes through the county and forms an important transportation hub that radiates Beijing and Tianjin and connects Shanxi and Inner Mongolia. The main scenic spots in the county include Huapi Mountain, Sumeng Martyrs Cemetery, Bailong Cave, etc.

In the first half of 2021, the total financial revenue of Zhangbei County will reach 1.93 billion yuan, ranking the fifth in Zhangjiakou, with a year-on-year growth of 19.64%.
