Zhangpu County, the southern county of the Southern Fujian Golden Triangle, is a coastal county in the southern part of Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province. It was established in the second year of the Tang Dynasty (686), and has been known as "Golden Zhangpu" since the Ming Dynasty. Zhangpu County is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese and the ancestral home of Taiwanese. The county has 12000 people going to Taiwan and 26000 people belonging to Taiwan. Among more than 23 million Taiwanese, Zhangpu nationality accounts for more than 2 million. It has jurisdiction over 17 towns and 9 agricultural, forestry, salt and tea farms, with a land area of 1708 square kilometers. According to the data of the seventh population census, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, the permanent resident population of Zhangpu County was 646838.

Zhangpu County has Nanxi, Luxi, Fotan, Chihu, Duxun, Wujiang and other rivers, with an annual precipitation of 1600 mm and an average annual temperature of 21.8 ℃. The coastline is 216 kilometers, 178 islands and reefs, 6 bays and 5 harbors. Zhangzhou-Zhao Expressway, National Highway 324, Xiamen-Shenzhen Railway, and Zhangzhou Coastal Passage pass through, with Xiazhai and Jiuzhen Wharf for water transportation. Shenyang-Haikou Expressway has three interchanges in Zhangpu.

Zhangpu County is a thousand-year-old county, a national cultural advanced county, a large population county, a large agricultural county, a large marine county, a large resource county, and a new port industrial county. The establishment of Gulei Petrochemical Industrial Base (one hundred billion industrial clusters) in Taiwan is a place where Taiwanese businessmen invest heavily. After the reform and opening up, it has become an important part of the first batch of coastal open counties, modern agricultural demonstration zones and national cross-strait (Fujian) agricultural cooperation experimental zones in China.

In February 2017, Zhangpu County was selected as the key city for PPP innovation in the field of national major municipal engineering. On July 29, 2020, it was included in the naming list of national health towns (counties) in the 2017-2019 cycle. In 2020, Zhangpu County will achieve a GDP of 49.561 billion yuan.
