Zhenkang County, subordinate to Lincang City, is located in the southwest border of Yunnan Province, in the west of Lincang City, between the lower reaches of the Nanting River and the lower reaches of the Nujiang River, between the north and south waters, bordering Gengma Dai and Wa Autonomous County in the south, Yongde County in the east, Kokang County in Myanmar in the west, and Longling County in Baoshan City across the river in the north. The whole county covers an area of 2642 square kilometers. Zhenkang County is one of the 25 border counties in Yunnan Province, with a border line of nearly 96.358 kilometers long. It has one national second-class port and six border exchange points. It is a frontier window for the national "the Belt and Road" initiative, the construction of the Bangladesh China India Myanmar Economic Corridor, and the construction of Yunnan's radiation center for South Asia and Southeast Asia.

Zhenkang County has a low-latitude mountainous subtropical monsoon climate, with an annual average temperature of 18.7 ℃ and rainfall of 1625.4 mm. The scenic spots in the territory include the "one hole across two countries" Nansan transnational karst cave, Nanpeng River Nature Reserve, etc. Local specialties include sour braised vegetables, bamboo banquet, rotten chicken rice, and beef skim. By 2022, Zhenkang County has 3 towns and 4 townships under its jurisdiction, and the county government is located in Nansan Town. According to the data of the seventh population census, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Zhenkang County was 172879. It is the second largest De'ang ethnic settlement in China.

In 2021, Zhenkang County's annual gross regional product (GDP) will be 6.493 billion yuan, with a year-on-year increase of 10.4% (constant price) and an average increase of 7.3% in two years. In October 2017, Zhenkang County was named the National Garden County by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. On January 25, 2019, Zhenkang County was selected as the national "safe agricultural machinery" demonstration county in 2018. On April 30, 2019, the People's Government of Yunnan Province decided to withdraw Zhenkang County from the poverty-stricken county sequence.
