Zizhou County is located in the hinterland of the hilly and gully region of the Loess Plateau in northern Shanxi and the southern margin of Yulin City. 1944 from Suide, Mizhi, Qingjian, Hengshan and other counties to build the county, in memory of the revolutionary martyr Li Zizhou named. On September 25, 2018, it was awarded the honorary title of "2018 E-commerce into Rural Comprehensive Demonstration County" by the Ministry of Commerce. In March 2019, it was listed as the first batch of counties under the protection and utilization of revolutionary cultural relics. On February 27, 2020, with the approval of Shanxi Provincial government, Zizhou County was officially removed from the list of poverty-stricken counties. On July 29, 2020, it was selected into the list of towns (counties) reconfirmed as National Health Care in 2019.

In 2020, the GDP of Zizhou County reached 6.793 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 3.9%.
