Baiyin, also known as Tongcheng, is a prefecture-level city in Gansu Province. It is the core area of Lanzhou Economic Zone and the sub-center of Lanbai Economic Circle. By 2020, the city has jurisdiction over 2 districts and 3 counties, with a total area of 21,200 square kilometers. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Baiyin was 1,512,110.

Baiyin is located in northwest China, the upper reaches of the Yellow River, the middle of Gansu Province, and the intersection of Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia and Qing provinces. It is China's largest industrial base of multi-variety non-ferrous metals, an important new chemical energy base in the west, a characteristic industrial base of new non-ferrous metal materials and products under the National Torch Plan, and a national demonstration base of new industrialization industry. It has been rated as a National demonstration city of circular economy, a national Advanced City of scientific and technological progress, and a national intellectual property pilot city. By July 2020, there will be 1 state-level high-tech industrial development zone and 5 provincial-level development zones.

Silver colorful, named after the precious metal city silver, was selected in the "2018 Tour of 100 Cities in China". Yellow River style tour, red education tour, Silk Road heritage tour, green ecological tour, industrial and mining sites and modern industrial sightseeing experience tour, farm leisure tour are wonderful. The Yellow River Stone Forest, a national geopark, has been honored as one of the "natural wonders of China" and one of the "52 Global Destinations to Visit 2018" by the New York Times. Huishijing Garden has been included in the national red tourism classic scenic spot, and Huining has been listed as the national red tourism city.

In 2021, the gross regional product of silver reached 57.102 billion yuan, up 8.4% year on year.
