Hangzhou, short for "Hang", known as Lin 'an and Qiantang in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city, provincial capital, sub-provincial city and megacity in Zhejiang Province. It is the core city of Hangzhou metropolitan area, the economic, cultural, scientific and educational center of Zhejiang Province approved by The State Council, and one of the central cities in the Yangtze River Delta. By 2021, the city has jurisdiction over 10 municipal districts, 2 counties and 1 county-level city with a total area of 16,850 square kilometers, with a permanent population of 12.204 million and an urban population of 10.203 million, representing an urbanization rate of 83.6%.
