Huanggang, known as Huangzhou in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city in Hubei Province and one of the cities in Wuhan metropolitan Circle. Huanggang is located in the eastern Hubei, the southern foot of Dabie Mountain, the north bank of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, the middle part of Beijing-Kowloon Railway, the junction of Chu and Wu Wei and Hubei, Henan, Anhui and Jiangxi provinces, and is connected with Wuhan. The terrain gradually tilts from north to south, and Dabie Mountain range is at the junction of Henan and Anhui in the northeast.
By 2020, the city has jurisdiction over 1 municipal district, 2 functional districts, 2 county-level cities and 7 counties, with a total area of 17,400 square kilometers. According to the seventh National census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent resident population was 5,882,719.
Huanggang has a long history and culture with a history of more than 2000 years. Huanggang's revolutionary tradition is brilliant. It was an important station for the early establishment of the Communist Party of China and the center of the Hubei, Henan and Anhui revolutionary base areas.
On December 15, 2017, it was awarded the Top Ten Attractive Cities, and on March 26, 2019, it was awarded the "National Positive Energy City".
