Huizhou City, also known as Goose City, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, a type II large city, one of the central cities in the Pearl River Delta region and a national historical and cultural city approved by the State Council. It is located on the east bank of the Great Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, with the back of Luofu Mountain, the south of Daya Bay, and the east river winding in the territory. The total area of the city is 11347 square kilometers. It is a subtropical monsoon climate zone with abundant rainfall, sufficient sunshine and mild climate. It has jurisdiction over Huicheng District, Huiyang District, Huidong County, Boluo County and Longmen County, and has two national development zones, Zhongkai High-tech Industrial Development Zone and Daya Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone. At the end of 2021, Huizhou has a permanent population of 6.066 million.

Huizhou has been an "important town in eastern Guangdong" in the Sui and Tang dynasties. It has always been the political, economic, military, cultural center and commodity distribution center of the Dongjiang River basin. In ancient times, it was known as "the famous county in Lingnan" and "the gateway of eastern Guangdong". Huizhou is the forefront of China's modern history of resistance, and once established the Dongjiang Column, the main force of the South China Anti-Japanese War. Huizhou is the central city in the middle and lower reaches of the Dongjiang River. It is located at the intersection of Hakka culture, Guangfu culture and Chaoshan culture. Various cultures blend with each other. Guangdong Han Opera, Cantonese Opera, fishing songs, folk songs, dragon dance, lion dance, spring ox dance, Yao's fire dog dance and other cultural activities are popular.

Huizhou is one of the important settlements and distribution centers of Hakka people. The number of overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan living abroad ranks first in the four Hakka states, and is known as the capital of Hakka overseas Chinese. Huizhou is the most successful place for Hakka, Chaoshan and Guangfu people to integrate, and is also one of the important channels for Hakka people to move from land civilization to marine civilization. Hakka people are the largest group of Huizhou people, and Hakka culture is an important part of Huizhou culture.

In 2021, Huizhou's GDP will reach 497.736 billion yuan, an increase of 10.1% over the previous year.
