Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture is an autonomous prefecture under the jurisdiction of Jilin Province, with its capital in Yanji City. It is located in northeast China and east of Jilin Province. The terrain is high in the west and low in the east, and slopes southeast from southwest, northwest and northeast. Yanbian is located in the middle temperate zone of the northern hemisphere, a temperate monsoon climate, the total area of the prefecture is about 43,300 square kilometers, jurisdiction over 6 cities and 2 counties. According to the seventh census, the permanent population of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture was 1,941,700 as of November 2020.

Yanbian is located at the border of China, Russia and North Korea, bordering Russia's Primorye Krai in the east and facing North Hamgyong Province and Yanggang Province of North Korea across the Tumen River in the south. The total length of the border is 768.5 kilometers, including 522.5 kilometers of China-North Korea border and 246 kilometers of China-Russia border. Yanbian is close to the Sea of Japan, and the Tumen River is the water channel from inland China into the Sea of Japan.

Yanbian has 5 national nature reserves and 8 provincial nature reserves, with a forest coverage rate of 80.8%. It is rich in ginseng, antler and mink, which are known as the "three treasures of Northeast China". The production of ginseng antler ranks first in the world, and it is also the world's largest apple pear production base.

Yanbian is the only Korean autonomous prefecture and the largest Korean settlement area in China. It also enjoys the national Western Development Plan policy and is one of the three prefectural-level administrative regions that enjoy relevant policies. It is also the birthplace of Manchu and its ancestors Sushen people and the "land of Dragon prosperity" of Qing Dynasty.

In 2021, Yanbian Prefecture's GDP reached 80.117 billion yuan, an increase of 6.8% over the previous year. The value added of the primary industry was 6.855 billion yuan, up by 7.0%; The added value of the secondary industry was 29.707 billion yuan, up by 6.7%; The added value of the tertiary industry was 43.555 billion yuan, up by 6.7%.
