Changzhi, a prefecture-level city in Shanxi Province, is known as Shangdang, Luzhou, Lu 'an, etc. It is located in the southeast of Jin, the border of Shanxi, Hebei and Henan provinces, and it is located in the Shangdang Basin surrounded by Taihang Mountain and Taiyue Mountain. It borders on Taihang Mountain in the east, Hebei and Henan provinces in the west, Taiyue Mountain in the west, Linfen City in the south, Jincheng City in the north, Jinzhong City in the north, and has a warm temperate sub-humid continental monsoon climate. It has jurisdiction over 4 districts and 8 counties, covering an area of 13,955 square kilometers.

Changzhi has a long history. "Changzhi" was originally the county where Lu 'an Fu was located. It was named after the eight years of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1529), which means "long peace and stability". In the 21st year of King Xian of Zhou (348 BC), Korea first set up Shangdang County here. In the twenty-sixth year of King Xian of Qin (221 BC), the Qin unified six States divided the world into thirty-six counties. Shangdang County is one of them. Changzhi is the deputy central city of the province, the Central City of Southeast Shanxi, the National Civilized City (cancelled), the Chinese Outstanding Tourism City, the National Forest City, the National Garden City, the National Health City, the charming city with Chinese characteristics, the Famous Chinese folk Art City, and the Demonstration area of the national public Cultural Service system. In 2019, it was once again selected into the "Top 100 Chinese City Brand Evaluation (prefecture-level City)" list. In January 2022, it was shortlisted in the national Innovative City Construction list. On June 7, 2022, it established a counterpart cooperation relationship with Beijing.

In 2021, the GDP of Changzhi reached 231.11 billion yuan, an increase of 11.0% over the previous year.
